New Roberto Duran Premium Offering – Cacique Guama

Caciqe

I have smoked and enjoyed the complete Azan line from Roberto Duran Cigars and at the 2014 IPCPR, Duran launched a premium line in 4 sizes, each with a unique name. I was given the new Cacique Guama to review, a 6 X 60 cigar with Nicaraguan and a proprietary tobacco filler, Nicaraguan binder and wrapped by an Ecuadorian Habano Criollo.

The Guama was average in appearance with a moderately firm feel. The draw was easy with an average smoke volume. The initial flavor was nuts and wood, joined by leather midway through the cigar. Throughout, there was an under taste of sweetness. The first third was mild and the Guama turned medium bodied by the middle. Unfortunately bitterness crept into the taste for the final third. Also, the Guama had a very flakey ash that required vigilance if you wanted all of the ashes in the ashtray. This suggests weak construction.

It took an hour and 15 minutes to smoke the medium bodied Guama and the bitterness and flaking do not justify the SRP of $16. I did find it on line for less, but still north of $10 and I do not consider this full value either. I rate the Guama a 2.5 out of 5.
