OPK by Battleground Cigars Is OK

OPK

Battleground Cigars features Civil War themes when naming its blends. Battleground is located in Hazardville, Connecticut which was a major supplier of gunpowder to the war so the naming approach makes historical sense. At the 2015 IPCPR Battleground gave me an OPK (Old Powder Keg) to review.
The OPK was 6 X 62 box pressed cigar with a Corojo wrapper, Connecticut binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler blend. I expected a spicy, peppery beginning from the Corojo wrapper but it was surprisingly mild. Earth and leather dominated at the beginning but the pepper and spice surfaced soon and remained for the rest of the smoke. The cigar did get somewhat stronger but never ventured beyond medium strength.

The OPK was easy to smoke, not very complex and had little aftertaste. It took 1 ½ hours to finish the OPK with its good smoke volume, an even draw, and average ash, but the burn required two minor touchups. The OPK has an SRP range of $6.95 to $9.95, depending upon the size. The OPK is pleasant enough but tends toward the middle ground in most categories so I rate it a 3 out of 5.
